Project Highlight

Winning competition entry to renovate a resort in South Carolina

The owners of this popular golf resort located in Hilton Head, South Carolina, opened a competition to renovate both the existing campus as well as the adjacent waterfront promenade.

Our submission won the commission by proposing a new masterplan for the area.

Proposal

Our proposal identified a series of issues with the current campus arrangement: i) vehicular dependency, ii) the lack of recreational opportunities, and iii) the missed opportunity to make families a key part of the resort demographic. To address these matters, our strategic plan included a pedestrian Main Street packed with shops, culinary options, and entertainment opportunities for guests of all ages.

In addition to these amenities, we also developed various accommodation types, including a newly renovated hotel range along with both Golf and Marsh cottages. The site would also include a wellness village for guests to participate in Spa and other athletic activities, along with a water park for families to enjoy.

Responsibilities

During the competition, my role within the team included producing site analysis diagrams, along with images to help the judges visualize our proposed new destinations around the resort. Once our entry won, I remained on the team developing a more detailed design scheme for the project.
