Paper Lampshade

True creativity is born from challenging circumstances. For this assignment, our toolkit was constrained to a single material: paper.

Intrigued by the opportunity to command different intensities of light through layers, I decided to build my lampshade as a series of folds.

The form chosen was inspired by fractal geometry, where a single entity is repeated at different scales throughout the whole piece. In this particular case, the unit chosen allowed me to interlock the pieces without the need for glue.

Structurally, this folding mechanism generated a sturdy structure that prevents the paper from coming too close to the heat source.

Re-imagining the Bento Box

Famous for its organisational logic, efficiency of space and practicality, the Bento Box is meant to capture the essence of Japanese Culture.

How can this Japanese classic be reinvented with an Argentine audience in mind?

This design takes the principles of a Bento Box and adapts them to cater an Argentine meal consisting of mate (Argentine tea), empanadas (savoury half moon shaped pies) and a picada (charcuterie board).

A thermos sits at the spine of the design, radiating heat from the inside out. The individual pockers for the empanadas are connected to the central heating core and are sealed by a foldable cork lapel which doubles as a holder when fastened to the outside of the box.

Separate from the main body is a container with three separate platters to carry the picada. These reside at the bottom of the box, separate from the thermus, to preserve their cool temperature. The remaining interstitial spaces are used for the necessary utensils, such as servillets, a cup and the bombilla (a metal straw used for drinking mate).
